2006 Tops Tournament
The TOPS tournament is a very large tournament with players from expert levels on down.
The boys had a great day at the TOPS tournament--in fact CURTIS AND CALEB EACH WON ALL 5 GAMES to tie for First Overall in the 1-3 section -- Curtis took the 1st Place trophy on tiebreaks and Caleb took the 4th place trophy! Wow!
Eli and Jack had 2 1/2 and 2, and... the 1-3 team WON THE 1ST PLACE TEAM TROPHY with 15 points!! Way to go Curtis, Caleb, Eli, and Jack!
In the 4-6 section Gabe won 4 out of 5 for 10th overall (congratulations Gabe!), Jake won 3 for a 5th grade trophy (which I have for him), and Joshua had 2, (and a 5th grade trophy) even after losing a tense game to Jake in the last round. We didn't think that our 3 player team score of 9 points would be enough for a team trophy--but it was! Gabe, Jake, and Joshua got a 4th PLACE TEAM TROPHY!
In the 7-8 section, Alexander took Second Place winning 4 out of 5! Congratulations Alexander! And Travis on Board 1 played Dakota Dixon in the 4th round--it looked like he had a won king and pawn endgame, but...Dakota sacrificed 2 pawns so one could queen, and Travis' 4 passed pawns couldn't quite make 1 queen... Travis finished with 3 1/2 points for 6th place. Sometimes it's lonely at the top... Congratulations to Travis for playing tough, great chess against the top players in his section!
